monthly dog friendly happy hour fundraising event at State & Allen Lounge on Tuesday, July 27th from
6:00-8:00 PM. Stage & Allen Lounge is located in the heart of Uptown at 2400 Allen Street, Dallas,
TX 75204.

The cover charge for this event is $10. Tickets may be purchased online at www.metroplexmutts.com,
or at the door. With this donation, guests will enjoy a free appetizer buffet, $2 domestics, $3 wells, $4
wines and a chance to win some great raffle prizes!

Metroplex Mutts is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to lowering the number of metroplex

Chow Chow Needs Home Home

Meet Woody. When an Animal Control Officer starting pleading for Woody's life we had to take notice. Then when both the vet and the groomer were complementary of his manner we knew we must have a great Chow.

Now, we have pictures to show the world. Behold this one year old neutered male who gives kisses and rolls over to have his tummy rubbed. He is good with other dogs, and just wants to hang out where it's cool.

We need an immediate foster or an adopter for this guy. Woody has charmed everyone who has met him so far. He is polite, curious, intelligent and sweet. Yep....he really is a Chow Chow! No mix in this guy!

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, now you have three thousand words to tell you this is ONE GREAT DOG.

Why we love Gayle Justice (UPDATED)

Gayle Justice is a dog trainer in the DFW area. She's been training obedience to agility to mobility service to aggressive dogs for over 25 years. One of her clients called her this morning. A 6 week old pup had been "let" into their yard overnight. When her border collies went out this morning, they found this surprise. Gayle is assisting her clients get this pup into a rescue group. If you know of anyone who may have an interest, let us know.

The story gets better. Gayle and her client are concerned that whoever left the pup in their yard over night may have left others in the neighborhood. So, they are off to look for more pups. In the Texas heat these guys won't last all day without food and water.

Thank you Molly with CCHS for taking this little sweetheart. She is quite the charmer and loves to cuddle. She also thinks the “big dogs” around here are nosy – they have all been checking on her and run to hubby and I if puppy makes a noise. “Quick Mom, she’s yelling!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE: THE VETS PLACE HER AT ABOUT 4-5 YRS. OLD

We have officially named her Corazon ("heart" in Spanish) and call her Cora. She was found in a Sonic, going from car to car searching for her family. She would look up at every driver and wag furiously hoping they would open the door. One Good Samaritan did.

She will be fully vetted before adoption. BUT WE NEED A FOSTER HOME ASAP!!! She is currently playing with a Jack Russell (!!) and another dog, so she is just fine with dogs. Older children would probably be fine. We are told that Cora's coat is like silk and she is as sweet as they come.

Siberian Husky Pair Ready for Action

When The Colony received a pair of large husky males surrendered by a family going through a divorce, Metroplex Mutts answered the call. Now we have a really sweet and very vocal pair of huskies looking for a forever home. They have begun a new diet and exercise program to get them into shape. Thankfully, as we know, these guys can drop some pounds fast when properly motivated.

Typical of male huskies, they are quite the love bugs! We know how difficult it is to find someone to take a pair of huskies, but these guys need to catch a break. They are house trained and past the destructive years.

People Care!

Every day we see tons of animals in need, but we also find some awesome stories. Joe Skenesky at Carrollton Animal Services is one of the good guys in Animal Control for sure! He goes way above and beyond to keep his live release rate as high as possible. Wait until you hear this story. It's so amazing. Thanks, Joe for caring enough to save Ms. Candy. AND.... Now for the story from Joe:

This little lady we name Candy came into the shelter last week as a stray. She was a very much on the scared side and a little very nippy and if we approached her, she charged at us. Because of her being nippy, and growly we had decided that she was not a candidate for adoption or rescue. She was slated to be euthanized this morning.

Because of her unadoptable status we removed her from the main kennel area to a more isolated and quiet area. Well over to the last few days her demeanor has completely changed, she is now a much nicer lady and looks forward to her daily walks. She has also began allowing us to pet and love on her as much as we can. Though we still were not sure if she had changed enough for a safe rescue.

So this morning as I was taking her to the euthanasia room she came out of her kennel run excited for her walk (not knowing anything else), after stretching for a second or two, for the first time since being here she rolled over on to her back with her tongue hanging out to have her belly rubbed. I put her back into her kennel run and decided that I had to find her a rescue to go to.

She is a about 3-5 years old and very, very matted to the point she may need to be sedated for grooming but I am sure once she is groomed she will be a beautiful lady. She seems to do ok with other dogs, mainly ignores them. When she arrives at a new location she may be scared at first like she was here but once she adjust her true gentle nature pours out of her.

I can hold her until next week, but I would really like to see her go sooner so she can be groomed and finally be able to move with out all those nasty knots holding her back.

Baskin's story, from Pat:

"A couple was suppose to foster the dog for a month while he was recuporation from heartworm treatment. I usually do not use fosters so far away but because of my surgery and wanting to save him (I got him from the SPCA); I made an exception. After two weeks she emailed me they were being evicted from their house and had to be out by Sat. That was last week and we had three days to make arrangements but none could be made so fast. We called the Henderson Animal Control to see if they could help in any way and they offered to care for him for a week to give us time to make arrangements for him. So she dropped him off there with his paperwork. The HAC were very nice and said they would keep him in a quiet place since he was in heartworm treatment. I would just go up there and get him if I could but I just had back surgery and it is about a 7 hr trip. Too much for me right now. So if anyone knows anyone or has any suggestions please let me know. We will pay for the gas. Baskin is a Red and White Siberian Husky and weighs about 55 lbs. He should have a 500 crate with him. I will give more information to anyone that is willing to help.Thanks and you can crosspost to other rescues in Texas in case someone is making the trip this way."

Transport Wed East and West.

HELP PLEASE….Three of our FABULOUS rescue partners need some transport help.

We are trying to move a Dalmation from Mesquite Animal Shelter to Kilgore on Wednesday. Are you available?

Also, we are moving a Chow from Lewisville to Arlington Wednesday morning so he can start his journey to Lubbock. Any takers?

Finally, a gal in Oklahoma would like to save a flat coat retriever named Crunch from Dal Animal Shelter any time before Sat afternoon.

With such a horrible summer for the animals, and fall not really giving us a break, I am sooooooo thankful that we still have rescues rescuing dogs. Let's support them!

Huskies in Need

Hello everyone. I hope your week is filled with plenty of tail wags and play bows.

In the last two weeks Adopt a Husky has pulled a couple of dogs in need of medical attention. In particular, I'd like to introduce you to Stella, a husky/mal mix about 3 years old. Stella was wooing her heart out to be rescued from the Arlington Animal Shelter. Despite a limp she was quite willing to jump up and say hello to any passer by. Adopt a Husky of Dallas knew she would require significant medical attention, but just couldn't leave her behind. Stella will undergo ACL surgery this week at the Mustang Surgery Center. Now we are happy to report that they were rescue friendly in charging only $1,800 for a surgery that they normally charge $3,500. However, that is a bit more than the Husky Bank is able to pay on its own. Of course, Ms. Stella also has heartworms.

I am also attaching a picture of Zara who was rescued out of Irving. Zara went to the vet this weekend and was diagnosed with pneumonia. This poor little gal who is less than 2 for sure also has heartworms.

To all my friends who receive our email blasts and who visit the Fur the Animals blog, you know we don't generally ask for money for our pack since we are such a small private rescue. However, today the wonderful pack at Adopt a Husky of Dallas (a 501c3) needs a donation infusion.

Many people think that $10 and $20 donations don't make a difference. While we encourage you to give whatever you can, please know that $10/person can end up covering her medical bill.

Please take a moment to send whatever you can to Adopt a Husky for these wonderful gals. At a time when the shelters are flooded with animals, we are doing all we can to find fosters and adopters. Please forward to your friends.

Sad news

There is a rescuer in NM, Lyn, who recently rescued a liver female Dalmatian named Coco. She suffered the worst complication from spay surgery that you could possibly imagine. Both the internal and external sutures failed and her entire intestinal tract spilled out onto the kitchen floor. Lyn and her vet, Dr. Abercrombie, fought to save her but in the end it was not meant to be.

Throughout this ordeal Lyn spent over $3,500.00 out of her own pocket to try and save little Coco. As an individual rescuer, Lyn does not have any outside funding and runs Albuquerque Dalmatian Rescue out of her home. It is for this reason that we are reaching out to our friends in hopes that we can lessen her financial burden. There is no recourse from the shelter vet who spayed Coco, and Lyn will have to close her rescue until she can pay off the surgery charges. This will mean that other Dalmatians in NM will die. Lyn needs our help desparately and I hope we can help reduce Coco's vet bill.

Paisley in her foster home

Paisley is a sweetie pie Dalmatian. She's about 8-10 years old and has recently moved into her foster home. She's a pro at car rides and races her foster mom to see who can be first in the car. Paisley also likes just hanging out in the car and following her foster mom wherever she goes.

We hope Paisley can move into her furever home soon so she can hit the road with her permanent family!

Are you prepared? They lure you in with that cute face, but we all know what comes next!

Well, for those of you who still can't believe you can find GREAT dogs at shelters, check out this tiny ball of fur. He was in a local shelter. His owner was contacted, and wasn't interested in coming to get him. This guy is really young, and after 7 days at a shelter, we are hoping he will stay in good health. Please keep him in your prayers this week. He had his first set of shots Friday, and is safe in foster care. The shelter is no place for a baby with no immune system yet.

No need to wait for this guy though. Arlington Animal Services has a BEAUTIFUL 4 year old adult male husky (see post below) that may not be with us past Monday or Tuesday. Arlington is doing EVERYTHING to move dogs to safety. We continue to support all their efforts. They have a vet on staff to spay/neuter so no dogs leave in tact! These days people are dropping dogs at the shelters in droves. It's up to you, animal lovers, to open your home to one more family member. You may not be in the market, but the dogs REALLY need you. How much effort is one more dog or cat? Every day I am looking at lists that will break your heart.

If Aussie Sheps are more your thing, check out Weatherford (also a male Lhasa there).

Denton, is an outstanding shelter that had ZERO adoptions on Friday, and we're hoping Saturday was much better. They have several highly adoptable dogs that you will fall in love with including two lhasas and a great pyr.

Please spend some time this coming week encouraging your friends to adopt dogs from the shelters.

Husky/GSD in Denton:

Falcon came into rescue when he was very underweight, had a horrible ear infection, and a coat in terrible shape.

Now he's looking much better and also looking for a new home.

Adopt a Husky is looking after this Husky, but needs a foster or forever home for him soon. This boy has lots of love to give his humans despite a shady past. He is a normal, happy, playful boy. He's good with other playful dogs and older children and adults. Mr. Falcon does like to have his own way, but then again who doesn't? House trained, up to date on shots and loving a leash are just a few reasons to come meet Falcon. Who can resist that white mask and bi-eyes! Please help Falcon find his forever home. We recently heard about a great organization in Maryland, Pets With Disabilities, which helps pets with disabilities find new homes. They currently have a cute Siberian Husky mix who's deaf and looking for a home in the Maryland area. We certainly home Skye finds a home soon.
